The Tennengau is a region shaped by three distinctive landscapes: the mountains of the Osterhorn Group in the north, an area rich in alpine pastures, the fiercely jagged ridgeline of the Gosaukamm, and the karst massif of the Tennengebirge in the south. On more than 300 marked paths, laid-back hikers find pure joy and avid mountaineers the challenges they crave.

Four tours certain to get your mouth watering with anticipation:
A guided hike on the Postalm in Abtenau, led by a biologist, promises wonderful enjoyment. A hiking bus runs from Abtenau up to the Postalm every Tuesday & Thursday.
The cheese tour leads to the Sulzkaralm, Mahdalm and Loseggalm in Annaberg: Three huts that serve homemade products, including AlmKäse, a cheese for which Tennengau is justifiably famous.
The so-called “Krapfen Tour” in St. Martin takes you to the Karalm, accompanied by beautiful scenery along the way. Upon your arrival, farmer’s wife Sylvia Steiner will serve up a selection of sweet and savory local specialties.
This tour is an 8 km long hike through the trees, bringing you to the Spiessalm in St. Martin. You will encounter the tallest trees in Austria and get to enjoy homemade specialties at the hut itself.
The SalzAlpenSteig is a premium long-distance hiking route, which leads for 230 kilometers in 18 stages through six regions of Austria and Germany. Four of those stages take you through the Tennengau in Salzburg.
Every stage and every region is unique in character, authentic charm and memorable experiences, including an astonishing selection of culinary and cultural highlights.
Hike on over 160 hikes and collect stamps and points for your Tennengau hiking pin! Depending on length and difficulty of the hike, there are different points awarded to every tour. From the “Bronze Hiking Pin” to the “Tennengau Gold” pin, there is a total of 10 categories – for every age and hiking level we have a hiking pin for you to collect!
With SummitLynx, collecting hiking pins in Tennengau is now even easier: just install the app and get started. Using GPS, hikers can check in at hiking destinations and stamping points, recording their hiking experiences in a personal online tour book. The hiking pins are collected digitally – and if desired, they can also be obtained as a “real” hiking pin from the local tourist office.

The title “Alpine Summer Hut” has to be earned through high-quality products and genuine authenticity. In total, the Tennengau is home to 17 certified Alpine Summer Huts.
