The impressive power of water in the heart of Tennengau
This waterfall in the Torren section of Golling plunges 76 meters to the valley floor in two stages. Which makes this particular waterfall one of the most impressive natural wonders in Austria and one of the most fascinating excursion destinations in Tennengau. No wonder that this waterfall has long been a beloved motif for painters, artists and photographers from around the world.
Awaiting you at Golling Waterfalls…
It doesn’t get more beautiful than this!
In the heart of the Tennengau, in the town of Golling close to Salzburg City, lies one of the top excursion destinations for families: Golling Waterfall. Impressive, fascinating, imposing, romantic, spectacular … These falls, set amidst a wonderful forest close to the Pilgrimage Church of St. Nicholas, astonish parents and children alike. Also a marvelous opportunity to explore the glorious nature of SalzburgerLand in the process.
Magical Hike to Golling Waterfall
During a hike out to these falls in Golling, you encounter the best of two worlds. On the one hand, the imposing hiking path, which is also suitable for children. On the other, the legendary natural wonder itself, secluded in the midst of the forest. From the free car park in Golling an der Salzach, the walk to the waterfalls takes only about 20 minutes. My recommendation: Having arrived at the falls, continue your hike to the headwaters of the Schwarzenbach.
How to reach Golling Waterfall
You will find the Golling Waterfall barely a 20 min walk from the free car park in Torren, a small community which is part of Golling. The path which leads to this natural wonder is clearly signposted, promising an enjoyable walk for everyone, big and small.
Golling Waterfall is open to visitors from May to October between 9 AM and 7 PM. An entrance fee is charged.
Family Hikes in the countryside around Golling
As you already know, this waterfall in Golling is one of the tallest in Salzburg and all of Austria, dropping a grand total of 76 meters. But were you also aware that every single second, some 15,000 liters of spring water surge over the falls?
For you to get the absolute most out of your nature experience in and around the Tennengau communities of Golling and Kuchl – close to the Golling Waterfall – you should allow yourself roughly three to four hours. Not least because those tired feet of yours will definitely have earned a break from time to time. And where better to enjoy those breaks than Gasthof Abfalter and Gasthof Torrenerhof.
If you wish to extend your Tennengau nature expedition even farther, consider Bluntautal and the Bluntau Lakes. Thanks to the astonishing variety of excursion destinations in Tennengau, nothing stands in the way of a wonderful day enjoyed with all members of your family, big and small.
