Kuchl then and now: Time Travel in Tennengau
Did you know that, thousands of years ago, the Kuchl valley was a giant glacier lake? Or have you heard the fascinating myths associated with the Georgenberg? How about the Roman Road and the curious bridge that still stands in Kuchl? I am certain that this 6.5 kilometers-long theme path, known as the “Kuchler Zeitreise”, will keep you and your family enthralled for hours. Better still: It is open both summer and winter. And you can also enjoy it while you push a stroller!
These are the highlights of the “Kuchler Zeitreise” theme path:
- Georgenberg, a place of extraordinary power: Already from a distance, you will catch sight of Kuchl’s dominant local mountain, the Georgenberg. Even the ancient Romans treasured this mountain for the power it radiated
- Bürgerausee: Swim, splash, enjoy the sunshine – the Bürgerausee in the heart of Kuchl is a summertime gathering spot for water lovers of all ages. That said, this lake is also “pretty as a picture” in autumn and springtime.
- Severin Linden Tree: The Romans and Celts both left visible traces of their culture in Kuchl. It is said that Saint Severin of Noricum once preached at the very place where the Severin Linden now stands.
How to reach the “Kuchler Zeitreise” theme path
The “Kuchler Zeitreise” path is a hiking loop taking roughly 2.5 hours to complete. I suggest beginning your short hiking adventure at the Bürgerausee, where you can also park your car. If you arrive by bus or train, you are in luck: Thanks to the Tennengau-Ticket, you will be able to travel through Tennengau for free!
Tip from Cleverix: Be sure to bring a swimsuit along on this hike. The Bürgerausee is the green oasis of Kuchl and a welcome place to cool off after your hike. With a swing to jump off, a slackline and beach-volleyball court, a wonderful way to conclude a summer’s day.
