Overview of the Tennengau Cross-Country Region
Cross-country skiers have so much to look forward to in the Tennengau: an amazing infrastructure including great transportation options, plus cross-country trails maintained to perfection. The various cross-country centers in Tennengau also provide XCers with a full spectrum of support services.
The Tennengau offers more than 30 tours, easy, intermediate and challenging. In total, the region is home to 10 cross-country communities that provide special services tailored to the needs of Nordic sports fans – plus floodlit trails in Annaberg and Abtenau. Furthermore, XCers can take advantage of the free ski shuttle that runs in Tennengau.

Ski Touring in the Tennengau
Enjoy the physical exertion of making your way up the mountain on touring skis, followed later by a gloriously enjoyable ride down to the valley. The Gosaukamm and Tennengebirge both lend themselves to this style of wintertime touring. The reward: once-in-a-lifetime deep-snow runs across virgin slopes, accompanied by wonderful views of the Tennengau mountain world.

Sledding & Tobogganing for the Whole Family
During the daytime or in the evening by moonlight: A sledding expedition with family or friends is guaranteed to turn your winter holiday into a very special experience.
On one of the numerous natural sled runs in the Tennengau communities of St. Martin, Abtenau and Lungötz, you will be able to put your steering skills to the test as you go head-to-head with your whole family. Once your exhilarating ride is successfully completed, reward yourself with refreshments enjoyed in one of Tennengau’s cozy inns.
We would suggest that you rent your sleds once you get here. Details about nearby sledding hills can be obtained from your Tennengau hosts as well as our local tourist offices.
Winter Hiking in Tennengau
Whether snowshoeing or winter hiking – kilometers-upon-kilometers of hiking paths and snow-covered countryside are just waiting to be discovered by you. Combine your hike with a high-spirited toboggan ride, then warm up afterwards in one of the Tennengau’s cozy mountain huts.
The Postalm:
The second-largest uninterrupted area of alpine pastures in Europe lies at elevations around 1304 meters above sea level. Even during the coldest season, it remains the same idyllic hiking area it is for the rest of the year.
Bluntautal:
A popular recreation area for families. The indisputable highlight: the deep-green lakes of Bluntautal amidst the incomparable mountain landscapes of the region. If you prefer to explore Bluntautal wrapped up all snug and warm, a ride on a horse-drawn carriage is definitely the ideal choice for you.

Bundled up as snug as can be, you will be able to experience the romantic side of Tennengau. Allow the snow-covered winter countryside to glide by you, as you enjoy the fresh air and peaceful countryside. During the Christmas season, we recommend hiring a coach to visit one of the traditional Advent markets in the region. Also the warm, friendly inns along the winter hiking paths are ideal destinations for your ride on a horse-drawn carriage.
