European Nature Reserve in Bad Vigaun in Tennengau
The twitter of birds, a river, the babble of water, the fragrances of fresh herbs and foliage. A hike through the “Lifeline Taugl” nature reserve in Bad Vigaun is an experience for all the senses. No wonder, since so many protected animal and plant species live within this more than 50-hectare nature sanctuary. As you walk amid the green vegetation of the Taugl, you might well encounter a number of them. Especially if you explore the theme path, which is open year-round.
Awaiting you in the Taugl…
Tauglgries in Bad Vigaun: What astonishing nature!
Sometimes, all it takes is pure nature to astonish the kids. Which is precisely what Lifeline Taugl does, and then some! Located in the Tennengau region, not far from Salzburg, yet as green as anywhere you could imagine, the Tauglgries is home to countless animals and plants. An excursion destination that couldn’t possibly be any closer to nature!
Right at the entrance to the Natura 2000 sanctuary, you will find a big nature playground. Be sure to take a look through the telescope on the viewing platform, so you can gaze at the riverbed of the Taugl with its many protected inhabitants. As you continue exploring Lifeline Taugl, you will never get your fill of the natural beauty you encounter. Perhaps a few of the protected creatures will dart across your path, including rare shore-dwellers, plovers and wagtails.
Between 1 April and 31 July, visitors are not permitted in the central portion of the Tauglgries riverbed. That’s when birds in this nature reserve are nesting and need to be left undisturbed.
Tip from Cleverix:
Do like the locals do and pack a swimsuit! In the upper area of the hiking path, right next to the Roman Bridge, it is especially idyllic – and you can take a dip there without disturbing the wild animals.
Good to know: The “Lifeline Taugl” theme path is open year-round, though it is not cleared in winter. Between 1 April and 31 July, the central area of the Tauglgries riverbed may not be entered. This is nesting season for the birds when they should be left completely undisturbed.
