Culture & Folk Traditions in SalzburgerLand
Concerts, theater and the Salzburg Festival in Tennengau
Here in Tennengau, fans of culture discover countless exhibitions, concerts, stage productions and festivals for all ages. The cultural spectrum is exciting and diverse, including the city of Hallein, a cultural center in its own right, as well as the festival at Golling Castle or Palmklang in Oberalm. Harvest Festival season is also a time for numerous traditional heritage celebrations such as the Lammertal HeuART Fest.
The city of Hallein, with event venues such as the Zieglstadel, Salzberghalle, Salinenkapelle, Pernerinsel, Verdampferturm, Stadttheater and Stadtkino, offers culture-loving guests some 160 different projects and performances annually.
The Salzburg Festival also uses the former saltworks building on the Pernerinsel in Hallein for special productions during the summer months.
“Since 1992, the Pernerinsel is a venue for the Salzburg Festival.”
The world’s biggest parade of hay figures shows us that hay is far more than just dry grass – it’s art! As Lammertal impressively demonstrates every year during the HeuART festival.
The Lammertal HeuART figures are created with love for every detail. In fact, it’s an absolute joy to watch the creators in action. On the big day, the festively decorated floats are accompanied through town by bands of musicians, whip-crackers and folk-costume groups. Clearly showing that local folk traditions reach their annual zenith during Salzburg Harvest Festival.
Every year, the five Lammertal communities – Abtenau, Annaberg-Lungötz, Russbach and St. Martin – rotate as hosts of the event.
The next Lammertal HeuART-Fest will take place on September 1st, 2024 in Abtenau. Visitors can look forward to the world’s biggest parade of hay figures, a food & crafts market, musical entertainment and so much more.
Harvest Festival takes place every year from the end of August until the beginning of November. In the so called “fifth season” in the SalzburgerLand there is a vast number of different things to do and experience: culinary highlights at the numerous inns, at the harvest festivals, at Almabtrieb festivals when the cattle returns from the mountain pastures and all the other festivities. All five participating Tennengau communities, including Abtenau, Annaberg-Lungötz, Kuchl and St. Martin, invite locals and guests to participate in the festivities.
