IRRESISTIBLE Highlight: Tennengau AlmKäse CHEESE
One of the most coveted regional delicacies is Tennengau AlmKäse. It is made from milk produced by hay-fed cattle according to traditional cheese-making techniques, exclusively from those lush alpine pastures tended by Tennengau farmers. Taste for yourself the difference from other types of cheeses - yet another highlight of your holiday with us in Adnet. And trust us when we say: You are bound to fall in love with it!
FIRST-CLASS AlmKäse FROM THE VILLAGE CHEESERY
When you step inside the small cheese shop run by the Pötzelsberger family at their village cheesery in Adnet, and when you are given a warm welcome by senior owner Melitta Pötzelsberger in person, you will notice immediately: They have invested an astonishing amount of passion in all they do! And that includes those homemade cheeses, which are available for you to sample.
Passion you can taste
The history of
Dorfkäserei Pötzelsberger began in 1886. Since that time, the Pötzelsberger family have been producing top-quality organic cheeses in Adnet. The secret of their success is a combination of family tradition, loving craftsmanship, harmony with nature, regionality and, above all, the joy they feel for their work. No wonder, then, that customers travel to Waidach in Adnet from far and wide in order to do a spot of shopping in their cheese shop. But be forewarned: it is so hard to choose! Twelve different types - from classic village cheese to special hay-flower cheese - are waiting to be discovered. Add to that an array of other natural products, both from their own cheesery as well as from other local Adnet farms. These include salts from Christine Brunauer, seasoned with herbs grown in the herb garden at Unteregg Farm!
The cheesery uses traditional cheese-making techniques and makes exclusive use of natural raw-milk and all-natural additives. The Adnet farmers deliver their milk to the village cheesery daily, where it is immediately processed while still fresh.
The naturally produced hay-milk from Tennengau is ideal for the production of a wide selection of organic cheeses.
FRESH HERBS FROM THE Unteregg HERB GARDEN
Herbs aren't only there for cooking and seasoning our food. Their green powers have also been known for thousands of years as natural remedies. During your visit to the Unteregg Farm Herb Garden in Tennengau, run by Christine Brunnauer, you will have a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating world and vast variety of domestic herbs.
"Unteregg`s Kräutergartl" was actually created in 2012 with the invaluable support of her entire family, especially daughter Magdalena (a professional gardener). It invites you to unwind, relax and observe. Special features include a natural rock slab and adjacent biotope. The sunny location and stone terraces provide an especially good growing climate for herbs.
GREEN MEDICINE - A NATURAL REMEDY
Herbs have so many different uses in our daily lives. Whether as seasonings for our food or in ointments: It is actually quite astonishing to see the many ways they can be transformed. In summer, a salve of St. John's wort is an excellent way of fending off an unpleasant sunburn. If you are stressed out, you might wish to resort to verbena, borage-seed oil or lemon balm. The last of those, incidentally, together with sage, is excellent in a glass of water, providing cool refreshment on a hot summer's day.
HERBAL COOKING & NATURAL PHARMACY iN Salzburgerland
Christine Brunauer is dedicated to teaching people about the healing powers of herbs. True to her motto "Helping people to help themselves", she shows people in small groups how to make their own natural products. Including healing nettle tinctures as well as Tennengau Forest Salt. Every year, Christine Brunauer manufactures this salt with the various herbs that nature supplies that year, combined with fresh tips of spruce and ground regional herbs. The result is that she manages to capture the fragrances of the forest itself.
BREAKFAST AT UnterEgg´s Kräutergartl
And as a special tip we can definitely recommend their breakfast. It is astonishing to experience everything that can be conjured up from Tennengau herbs... pure poetry. From herbal butter, herbal teas, spreads and herbal roulades, to delicious regional products, such as those from nearby Dorfkäserei Pötzelsberger.
