Culture & Traditions
An invitation to celebrate with us
One thing is for certain: People in Tennengau hold to their traditions. In step with the changing seasons, the region's 14 different communities celebrate festivals, big and small. And everyone who wants to participate is welcome to do so. After all, in addition to our local traditions, our region is also well known for its unique brand of heartfelt hospitality!
But traditions aren't merely something that is revered, they also live and grow. One perfect example of this is the popular HeuART Fest at the end of August and beginning of September, a highlight of the year's events. As part of the celebrations, we are treated to a parade of the world's biggest figures made out of hay. It clearly demonstrates that hay is far more than just dry grass! The festively adorned floats are accompanied by local bands, whip-crackers and folk-costume groups. Clear evidence, also, that our annual folk traditions culminate during the weeks of Harvest Festival.
ART AND CULTURE IN SalzburgerLand
Throughout the year, culture lovers discover in Tennengau numerous special exhibitions, concerts, stage plays and festivals appealing to people of all ages. Cultural events in Hallein, the festival at Burg Golling, events at the Jakobisaal in St. Jakob am Thurn, and "Palmklang" in Oberalm – just a few examples of the rich cultural program you can look forward to.
Salzburg FESTIVAL AND CULTURE IN HALLEIN
Hallein is a town which embraces culture in countless forms, with venues that include the Zieglstadl, the Salzberghalle, the Salinenkapelle, Perner Insel, the Verdampferturm, the Stadttheater and the city cinema. In fact, culture-loving guests can look forward to the better part of 160 projects and productions every single year. Art and culture are vibrantly alive in this Celtic city on the Salzach - and the unique natural landscapes of SalzburgerLand, shaped by mountains, lakes and rivers, hide countless other small treasures.
The famous Salzburg Festival also uses the building of the former salt works on Perner Insel island in Hallein for special productions during the summer months.
